  • R3X: Offers even more dynamic abilities both on and off-road compared to R3.

Shared Specifications and Features:

  • Battery Options: Both R2 and R3 will feature two battery sizes.

  • Range: Larger pack achieves over 300 miles of range on a single charge.

  • Acceleration: 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds for the quickest powertrain configuration.

  • Drive Configurations: Single-Motor (RWD), Dual-Motor (AWD), and Tri-Motor (two rear, one front).

  • Structural Battery: Utilizes an all-new 4695 cell for improved energy density and output.

  • Fast Charging: Compatible with both NACS and CCS, charging from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

  • Self-Driving: Enhanced autonomous capabilities with Rivian's new perception stack featuring 11 cameras and five radars.

  • Ever-Improving Features: Frequent software updates and expansion of features over time.

Design Priorities:

  • Adventure: Emphasis on open-air driving experience, ample space, and refined touches.

  • Space: Focus on rear passenger legroom, ample storage, and trunks.

  • Refined Touches: New steering wheel with integrated haptic control dials, durable and sustainable materials.

  • Charge port: Currently on R1S and R1T, the charge port is on the front driver’s side but on the R2 it will be located on the rear passenger side. This choice was made, as a cost reduction effort as the base model only has a rear-wheel drive single motor. If the charge port was located in the front, they would have had to run high-voltage cable from the rear to the back.

Recently, RJ Scaringe, Rivian CEO, posted that there are more than 68,000 R2 reservations in less than 24 hours!

Quebec to Phase Out EV Rebates by 2027: Impact on Electric Vehicle Adoption.

Quebec's decision to scale back EV rebates has sparked discussions on the future of EV adoption. Starting from January 1, 2025, the province will gradually reduce its generous incentives, leading to their complete elimination by 2027. This move by the Coalition Avenir government raises questions about the popularity and affordability of EVs without governmental subsidies. Quebec currently has one of the most generous subsidies offering $7,000 in rebate on the purchase of a BEV (battery electric vehicle) and $5,000 in rebates on the purchase of a PHEV (Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle).

Quebec's Roulez Vert program, known for its substantial incentives, will undergo significant changes. From January 1, 2025, the rebate for battery-powered EVs will decrease from $7,000 to $4,000, while plug-in hybrids will see a reduction from $5,000 to $2,000. These reductions will continue over the next two years, ultimately ending in 2027.

Even used EVs, which previously benefited from rebates, will face reduced incentives. The current $3,500 rebate will diminish to $2,000 in 2025, followed by further reductions until it is phased out entirely by January 1, 2027.

The timing of this decision is intriguing, especially considering the recent increase in EV spending by the CAQ government. With a projected deficit of $11 billion, Quebec aims to revise its budget, leading to the unexpected changes in the Roulez Vert program.

Despite these alterations, Quebec remains committed to its goal of having two million EVs on its roads by 2030. This ambitious target signals the province's determination to promote sustainable transportation, even without extensive local subsidization.

Tesla Cracks Down on Cybertruck Resellers Amid Profit Concerns.

Tesla is taking action against early Cybertruck owners who are flipping their electric pickup trucks for profit. Despite the automaker's warnings against resale, some owners have been selling their Cybertrucks at auctions for hefty sums, prompting Tesla to cancel future orders and issue warnings to those involved.

Tesla had implemented a "no resell" clause for early VIN Cybertrucks to deter owners from profiting off their purchases. Violating this clause could lead to legal action and forfeiture of future vehicle purchases from Tesla.

While Tesla can impose restrictions, enforcing them poses challenges due to owners' rights to resell their property. However, Tesla has the discretion to refuse future business with individuals who breach its terms.

Tesla has taken action against owners who have disregarded the no-resell policy. One owner reported having their additional Cybertruck reservations canceled by Tesla, with the automaker refusing to refund their deposits and warning of future order cancellations without refunds.

The resale market for Cybertrucks has seen prices soar, with some units fetching over $200,000 USD at auctions. Notably, Ford purchased a Cybertruck, raising speculation about reverse-engineering efforts.
