Novonix and Stellantis Sign Six-Year Synthetic Graphite Offtake Agreement.

Canadian-founded battery technology company Novonix has secured a major partnership with global automaker Stellantis, committing to deliver 86,250 to 115,000 tonnes of synthetic graphite over a six-year term starting in 2026. This is great news for Canada as innovations continue to advance the North American EV battery production industry.

Novonix, originally launched as a startup in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a spin-off from Dalhousie University’s renowned Jeff Dahn Research Group. Since its inception in 2013, the company has grown into a major player in battery technology, now headquartered in Australia with operations across Canada and the U.S.

The synthetic graphite for Stellantis will be produced at Novonix’s Riverside facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with plans to also allocate volumes from a forthcoming greenfield facility.

Synthetic graphite offers key advantages over natural graphite, despite being more expensive to produce. For example, it has a higher energy density which is critical for advanced battery chemistries and pushing EV battery technology. Synthetic graphite also has customizable properties through specifically tailored production processes to enable greater performance optimization.

Novonix has dedicated years to developing synthetic graphite, with its Bedford, Nova Scotia lab playing a crucial role in refining this groundbreaking material. The company has made significant strides to localize graphite production, reducing dependency on China, which currently dominates the global graphite supply chain.

Stellantis is leveraging Novonix’s synthetic graphite to support its North American battery cell partners, aligning with its ambitious EV growth plans. The automaker is near completion of a $5 billion battery manufacturing plant in Windsor, Ontario, in partnership with LG Energy Solution under the NextStar Energy joint venture. This facility recently began producing battery modules.

Novonix now faces just over a year to finalize its synthetic graphite production process, including compliance with regulatory standards, before the first deliveries commence on January 1, 2026.

With this agreement, Novonix secures its position as a leader in North American battery materials, while Stellantis strengthens its EV supply chain, paving the way for sustainable growth in the global electric vehicle market.

Jaguar Unveils New Brand Identity as It Transforms into a High-End Electric Automaker.

Jaguar is gearing up for a bold transformation as it prepares to relaunch as an all-electric luxury automaker. The British brand, owned by Tata Motors, recently revealed a fresh identity that includes a redesigned logo and a reimagined creative philosophy called Exuberant Modernism, setting the stage for its future as a leader in high-end EVs.

Jaguar’s new logo is a modern interpretation of its iconic leaping jaguar emblem, accompanied by a minimalist wordmark in distinctive typography that blends upper and lower case characters. This updated branding reflects the company’s commitment to innovation, elegance, and a future focused solely on electric vehicles.

The rebranding coincides with Jaguar’s plans to introduce three new electric vehicles (EVs) in 2026, part of a sweeping transition that began in 2021 when the company announced its move to an electric-only lineup. To underscore its commitment, Jaguar ceased sales of new gasoline and diesel models over a year ago.

Jaguar’s new creative approach, Exuberant Modernism, is a dramatic departure from its previous design language. This philosophy emphasizes bold proportions, striking forms, and fearless creativity. A teaser image released by the company hints at this vision, showcasing the rear detail of a concept vehicle with dramatic lines and a commanding presence.

The full unveiling of Jaguar’s Design Vision Concept will take place during Miami Art Week on December 2, 2024. Jaguar plans to create curated gallery spaces at the festival and collaborate with emerging artists who embody the “Copy Nothing” ethos championed by founder Sir William Lyons—a philosophy rooted in original and unexpected thinking.

Among Jaguar’s forthcoming models, its first all-electric flagship vehicle is already generating buzz. Spy photos of the heavily camouflaged prototype reveal a sleek and imposing silhouette, blending elements of a four-door coupe and a shooting brake. The prototype showcases bold proportions, a long nose, a high beltline, and a grille that serves as a design feature rather than a functional necessity for the 100% electric car.

This model represents the first in what Jaguar calls a "new species" of high-end vehicles, marking the brand’s shift from competing with premium automakers like Audi and BMW to aligning with luxury brands such as Bentley, Maserati, and Porsche.

The EV is expected to have a significant road presence, with proportions that depart dramatically from Jaguar’s current lineup. Official details about the concept vehicle and the new design language will be revealed at Miami Art Week.

Jaguar’s new EVs will combine cutting-edge technology, enhanced performance, and elevated design. As part of its transition into a high-end luxury segment, these vehicles will carry a premium price tag, with the first model expected to cost between $130,000 and $140,000.
