Rivian finally receives certification from Transport Canada.

It’s not news to any Canadian that Rivian’s operations in Canada have been lacking. Many Rivian’s have been spotted throughout the country, but always bolstering US license plates (I swear they’re mocking us). Delays upon delays and communication with customers seems to be lacking. However, Rivian has recently received their import certification from Transport Canada, so hopefully that means Rivian’s will be spotted showing off a Canadian license plate.

An initial snag in the delivery was due to a failure to meet import certification standards set by Transport Canada, but Rivian has since gone on to clarify that Transport Canada simply required additional information. That information has been submitted to Transport Canada and Rivian has received their certification. Rivian now appears on Transport Canada’s Preclearance list of recognized vehicle importers and models included are the R1T and R1S.

Still, it appears that Rivian’s plans to deliver the R1T and R1S is scheduled for the second half of 2023. If you have reserved a Rivian, I hope it arrives a lot sooner than 1-years time and also, I would like to hear from you! What your experience has been like and if you have had any communication with Rivian.

Maserati gets ready delivery the GranTurismo Folgore by the end of the year.

The GranTurismo Folgore will be Maserati’s first EV, and is planned to be released by September 2023, ahead of its Grecale electric crossover SUV announced earlier this year. This is Maserati’s first step towards their ambitious goal of offering electric versions of every Maserati model by 2025 and shift to EV-only sales by 2030.

Details of GranTurismo Folgore’s powertrain have only recently released. It will be powered by 3x300kW electric motors and will be built on an 800-volt platform to allow fast charging at 270kW. Battery-wise the Folgore will have a 92.5kWh battery pack with cells in a T-arrangement. Due to this, there is some trunk space sacrificed when compared to non-electric versions. When it comes to performance, the Folgore will achieve a speed of 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds and will have a top speed of 320 km/h.

In terms of exterior, the Folgore will keep it’s Maserati body shape and will virtually match the gas version (minus exhaust pipe etc).

More details on the electric Folgore, including projected driving range, release date, and pricing will be revealed at a future event, according to Maserati. The automaker has bold plans to have an all-electric lineup by 2025, but has yet to make one available for purchase.

BMW reveals the XM - First PHEV from BMW to feature the M badge.

The BMW Group’s high-performance BMW M division has revealed the XM – the division’s first vehicle to be feature PHEV. The XM builds on the division’s Concept XM SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) initially revealed by BMW Group in 2021. The unveiling of the XM works similarly to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the M brand.

The XM utilizes a Hybrid Drive system, which provides a total system output of 653 hp (480 kW) – with the engine delivering up to 489 hp (360 kW) and the electric drive system generating up to 197 hp (145 kW). The XM’s engine is the newly-developed V8 combustion engine with the brand’s M TwinPower Turbo technology, which is paired to an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The XM achieves a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) time of 4.3 seconds, a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h), and a maximum torque of 590 lb-ft (800 Nm).

Through its M Hybrid button, customers have access to three Drive Modes: Hybrid, Electric, and eControl. In its all-electric mode, the drive system enables zero-emissions cruising at speeds up to 87 mph (140 km/h) along a distance of 51 to 55 miles (82 to 88 kilometers). Here power is supplied from a 29.5 kWh (of which 25.7 kWh is usable) lithium-ion battery pack mounted into the PHEV’s underbody. This battery accepts AC charging at up to 7.4 kW, taking it less than 3.5 hours to fully recharge.

Production on the XM is expected to commence at the BMW Group’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina from December 2022, ahead of a Spring 2023 release. At launch, it will be priced from $159,000 USD (220,000CAD) (excluding a $995 USD destination and handling fee). Following this release, BMW M will roll out BMW XM Label Red – a premium variant targeting a Fall 2023 launch. Priced from $185,000 USD, the variant’s drive system will be capable of outputting a combined 748 bhp (550 kW) and provide a maximum torque of 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm).
