Sometimes when writing this newsletter it seems like pieces come together very naturally, other times it’s like figuring out a puzzle and other times I feel like I am hammering pieces together to make them fit. 2024 Polestar 3 - first look and spotlight review.

The Polestar 3 is planned to start deliveries near the end of 2023. If this spills over into 2024, I don’t think anyone would be surprised however it is still too early to determine if deadlines will be met. The Polestar 3 comes in two trims: long range dual motor which costs 115,000$ CAD and the long range dual motor with performance pack which which costs about 123,000$ CAD. The Polestar has some unique design features packed with performance and also contains design features specifically for the convenience of the driver. Volvo EX90 unveiled - another addition to Volvo EVs.

The EX90 is the first all-electric vehicle revealed by Volvo as they are planning to reveal a new electric vehicle model each year for the next 5 years and by 2030 offering only electric models.

The EX90 will be built in the US and was designed as a modern stylish family vehicle with the latest technology has to offer. The EX90 is a seven-seater with exception safety and sustainability standards.

“The Volvo EX90 is a statement for where we are, and where we are going,” said Jim Rowan, our chief executive. “It’s fully electric with a range of up to 600 kilometres on a single charge, designed to further raise our safety standards, the first Volvo car to be truly defined by its software and part of a wider ecosystem, connecting to your home and your other devices. The Volvo EX90 is the start of something new for Volvo Cars in many ways.”

The EX90 twin-motor all-wheel drive version has a 111kWh battery and two permanent magnet electric motors to provide 517 hp. The Volvo EX90 utilizes the latest in sensing technology like cameras, radar and lidar to achieve the highest level of safety and be hardware-ready for the future of self-driving. The EX90 is further future-proofed as it’s software can be updated over-the-air. Another feature that has been highly sought after due to recent hurricanes and tropical storms has been bi-directional charging - which the EX90 features the hardware to enable and can be used to power your home other other electric components, including another Volvo EX90. This feature is not currently available but will be in the future.

Saudi Arabia launches first electric vehicle company: Ceer.

In an effort to diversify the economy in Saudi Arabia, the oil rich country has launched Ceer.

Ceer is a joint venture between the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund and Taiwanese technology company Foxconn. Ceer will design, manufacture and sell a variety of electric vehicles mainly focusing on providing for consumers in Saudi Arabia. The partnership is anticipating approximately $150-million in US investments and will generate approximately 30,000 employment opportunities. Ceer is projected to directly inject approximately $8-billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2034.

Ceer will license component technology from BMW during the vehicle development process while Foxconn will develop the electrical architecture of the vehicles which include infotainment, connectivity and autonomous/self driving technologies. Ceer vehicles will be designed and manufactured directly in Saudi Arabia and will meet or exceed the highest global automotive quality control and safety standards.

Ceer is expecting their EVs to be available in 2025.
