Weekly Recap Issue #1

Hello! Hope you had a fantastic week. This is the very first issue for the EV Canada Newsletter. I don’t think this first release will reach many people but hope that others will find this in the future and see how far electric vehicles have come.

This newsletter is specific for Canada but also want to share news coming from outside of Canada that could affect electric vehicles in Canada.

  • General Motors has filed for a patent at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for it’s new PowerBase system. Essentially the PowerBase will be a “Power inverter for use in a motor land vehicle” as referenced in filing. Basically it will be a system that will provide power to external devices/equipment. PowerBase is being developed and introduced to compete with Ford’s F-150 Lightning. You can expect to see this option available in 2024 vehicles. Detailed article: LINK

  • Ford wants to make the Ford F-150 Lightning more accessible to customers without the customer having to pay the dealer ridiculous fees for reservation. Some say the high fees contribute to less adoption of EVs by the general public. Ford has sent letters out to dealers reminding them of their contractual obligations which includes to “avoid in every way any ‘bait,’ deceptive, misleading, confusing or illegal advertising or business practices.” with the ability to redirect a dealers’ allocation of the F-150 Lightning elsewhere.Full article: LINK

  • Rivian barely missed their original targets for 2021 having delivered 920 electric vehicles (target was 1,000). This number seems quite low when compared to their factory target of 150,000 units per year but Rivian is just ramping up! They have plans to open another plant which will be located in Georgia and have a target of 400,000 units per year and start production sometime in 2024.Full article: LINK
