Are you the type of person that starts dreaming of Halloween mid-summer? Or do you simply hate Halloween for the spooky joy it brings to kids like my neighbour, Fred?(PS: If you’re good at carving pumpkins - I’m jealous).

Canada

Best-selling EV in every Canadian province January to September 2022.

Here is a compiled list of electric vehicles that have been delivered to Canada. Which province prefers which EV? With incentives being available at the federal and provincial levels, it will be interesting to see if provincial rebates persuaded EV purchasers to select one model over another. The following compilation only includes vehicles that were eligible for the $5,000 iZEV program incentive. Units of the Model 3s listed, had been ordered before the Tesla price hike and therefore were still eligible.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: The First EV To Win MotorTrend's SUV Of The Year Award

If you have been in the “EV world”, it should come as no surprise - The Hyundai Ioniq has received highly positive reviews from critics and owners alike. With it’s unique styling (pixelated lights), good performance (great handling and 320hp for the AWD long range version), reasonable range (488km) and decent prices (~$47K-~$57K CAD - new) it’s no wonder that the Ioniq 5 was in the running for MotorTrends SUV of the Year Award.

What might surprise people, is that the Ioniq 5 was named MotorTrends SUV of the Year Award - not just for electric vehicles but for all vehicles within the category. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was selected as the winner from a group of 45 models where 6 primary criteria were looked at by MotorTrend, which includes: safety, efficiency, value, advancement in design, engineering excellence and performance of intended function.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has beat out some stiff competition which includes the 2022 BMW iX, 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, 2023 Hyundai CR-V, 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L, 2022 Kia EV6, 2023 Kia Sportage, 2023 Land Rover Range Rover, the 2023 Nissan Ariya, 2022 Rivian R1S. It’s great to see EVs represented so well in the SUV of the year category.

MotoTrend highlights the Ioniq 5’s electric architecture.

The Ioniq 5 offers bleeding-edge 800-volt electric architecture, making it among the quickest-charging EVs on the market (with charge times rivaling road trip rest stops). At just more than $40,000 to start, it's also the cheapest vehicle with such technology on the market today.

MotorTrend was founded in 1949 and is internationally recognized as one of the leading brands in the automotive category. For their full write-up on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and their selection category scores, you can check it out here.

Congratulations is in order for Hyundai and the Ioniq 5. It truly is an amazing vehicle.
